So You guys are all away as events unfold in Laibach. You have no way of knowing what is happening there until you get back as word is only getting out locally about 3-4 weeks before next gather (approximately when you get back). You can come live on the boards again once Storyteller/Chris makes an announcement From the Chamberlain. Anyways, here you go Downtime 2 (Ricchar, Raqa, Galahad) - Quest for the Lamp
Ricchar , Raqa, and I are going after some magical lamp in Croatia. Ricchar has the details as he is the one that knows about the lamp and location. From past downtime - However, you do learn of two mystical objects once held but lost to the Order of Hermes. One is a lantern that is enchanted, when lit with a special candle the combined magics are said to bind all souls to the radius of the light.
- The ritual to create the Candle and components is said to have once been created by the Order of Hermes and may still be present in the libraries. The Candle casts a circle of protection vs evil.
- The Lantern when lit with even a normal candle is said to keep ones spirit from leaving the body and promote the knitting of flesh (healing).
- The last known existing candle and the lantern are said to have been lost in a great battle against evil. From what you can piece together it refers to the fall of Carthage.
- You do come across another note of a Friar that may have fled the city. And in Croatia occasional appearances of a holy man healing peasants of injuries that should have sent their soul to their gods.
Requirements
- Travel test each for traveling into other Cainites territory uninvited
Result on Win:- Clues as to where the friar may have headed. Where the last miracles occurred. Keep in mind the Friar fled Carthage in 146BCE (1345 years before) so it takes much time to dig up enough legends and leads to keep following.
- You spend much time chasing leads around Croatia. Following rumors of miracle healings, stories of how in just the next visit this happened or that. Some of which you discount as stories suspiciously like the deeds of Jesus.
- Eventually you find a remote village, isolated for the most part from the rest of the country, very independent and from what you can tell until the Omen War was under very tight control and purposely kept isolated for several centuries or perhaps even Millennia. The territory you are in would fit that of the Tzmitze quite well.
- You learn of the legend of the Friar and his untimely death. His magic lamp. A one armed man smelling of brimstone killed the Friar took the lantern heading north into the mountains. Legend says he saved his wife and childs soul from being devoured by a devil.
- It is dangerous to travel there. Once in their great, great, great grand dads time it is said they used to stake out both animals and Virgins to appease the Pagan Gods. Even today some families will sacrifice a goat or ox when trouble arises. They also stake out those who have committed crimes worthy of stoning.
- Other fireside tales tell how he was a demon in disguise himself. Others that he was a god come down to reclaim his lost and stolen powers.
- The only thin in common is that as the sun sets the mountain comes alive with eyes of fire. The demon emerged from the fiery pits or ascended to the top the mountain, the "man" and the lamp are all consistent.
Bonus test:outright win - You come across another legend. The Friar was supposedly sundered in two. One burned and destroyed wielding a book of knowledge where the other healed and protected using by using the light cast from the lamp of wisdom. I still need to refine the story a little but I am almost brain dead tonight.
The book of knowledge is the infernal book that also left Carthage for here.
The Light of Wisdom is the Lamp.
Reality is probably that the Friar pursued the fleeing cultist that had the book. The Cultist did something to a farmer and the farmer in desperation tried to steal the lamp and killed the Friar in the process. Both book and Lamp end up on/in the mountain. But unless they actually look for both they will only find one or the other. Only to discover latter that the second item was there. A foundation of a old farmhouse is at the base of the mountain. Lamp is there. Book is inside the caves.
Two caves pass right through the mountain from east to west. So when the sun sets the last rays can be seen on the other side of the mountain after all is basically dark through the two caves.
