Step One
Decided your concept:
Who are you? Where did you come from? Why are you here? When were you embraced? What drives your forward as a character?
Choose an Archetype
Step Two
In Pillars of Eternity I hope to give the players more choices and better outcomes. That said.
1) For no extra cost you can start with 40 XP at creation (instead of the 30 as stated in book).
2) For 2 MINOR BOONS added to the draw deck from your character you can start with 50 XP
3) For 2 MAJOR BOONS added to the draw deck from your character you can start with 60 XP
4) For 3 MAJOR BOONS or 1 BLOOD BOON added to the draw deck from your character you can start with 70 XP
The draw deck is a random deck of beneficial items, boons, clues and abilities the player base will access at the beginning of game to help salt the in game economy.
Should you also complete a minimum two paragraph Cast page entry you shall receive a bonus 5 XP
The Cast page entry should be public knowledge about your character the anyone could obtain through spending one down time action.
More detailed private back histories are wonderful and a well fleshed out character is easier to get into. It may provide in game benefits or it may not, either way it can add a lot to your character if you have thought about them a little more in depth. Not everything that has happens to a character is good. You may have been beaten, embarrassed, had to sleep in a outhouse for several days while hiding. All of which add flavor.
If you want to call the ST and get approval for something and the call starts with, I would like this because my character is this or that. Write it down. It lends credence to a request and will also help you move forward. Put a little situation surrounding it. What happened that they became so jaded, or such a mogul?
Step Three
Choose a Clan
Step Four
Assign Abilities
7/5/3
Standard build is in effect
Choose your focus
Step Five
Assign Skills
4 in one skill
3 in two skills
2 in three skills
1 in four skills
Standard build is in effect
Step Six
3 in one background
2 in one background
1 in one background
Everyone must assign 1 dot in Generation to be a Vampire. This will make you 10th Generation. See revised Generation chart. Neonates are now 10th Generation not 13th-11th. Ancillae are 9th Generation.
Step Seven
2 to one in-clan discipline
1 in both remaining in-clan disciplines
Potence, Celerity and Fortitude (The Physical Humors) may be bought as in-clan disciplines with no penalty by any player as the dark ages required the blood to be hardier. If these are not of your natural clans disciplines you must spend XP and cannot use free dots to start.
Step Eight
Choose your Merits and Flaws
Maximum 7 points in each.
Step Nine
Spend your Initial XP
IMPORTANT
All players use neonate build rules to construct your character. (This means at creation it is 1 x each level of skill to raise, 1 x each level of background to raise... with the exception of Disciplines)
Step Nine
Find other players to create or join a Dukedom if your are a high clan.
Dukedom has a minimum of five sworn members.
If you are a low clan get ready to join your low clan brothers and sisters in the free city. Or, you may swear at the bottom level into a Dukedome as a Knight. (Ranks: Duke, Baron, then Knight)
