In June 1199 in Klagenfurt activities spring up all over the capital. A locally famous builder/architect Manfred Dragnur begins collecting slaves and craftsmen from around the local area. His first project is to start marking out a new tournament grounds his project is not to over zealous and very modest. His second project is to improve the market grounds this he does by knocking down the smaller shops to consolidate them into larger stores and begins to improve the streets and paths into the area. His third project is to remove the roof from the library to be replaced with a something new. At the pace that is kept all three projects will take years to build.
The middle of July the work is slow due to the constant rain and poor weather. Four ships arrive in the Port of Trieste from the Italian main land and one from Crete. Off loaded are master guildsmen, carpenters, stonemasons and the very famous master architect Giotto Piasni. Along with tons of fine woods, marble and more exotic building materials. The ships depart after unloading and make many return trips.
Between August and December huge gains have been made on all the structures. The modest tournament grounds have been transformed into a impressive structure made of granite with a vaulted wooden roof covering the battle grounds. The arena seats near 3000 people and has auxiliary stables, hospital rooms and a feasting hall all within the grounds. The market place looks to rival the grand bazaars of the near east as foreign shops and exotic perfumes scent the air. The steady streams of baggage trains of goods and new shops springing up are starting to push into adjoining streets and residences. As for the library it has been levelled completely and a ancient structure looks as though it has been moved piece by piece into the city. The structure stands 30 foot tall and is five times the size of the old library. Monks, scribes, priests and troubadours from around Europe and the East start traveling to Klagenfurt. The manuscripts, scrolls and fine art that start to fill the library are very impressive including an Alexandrian Codex Bible, a Byzantine Codex bible and Pope Leo IX's personal Bible.
