Jaak is seated, facing the entrance as you enter.

Alfonso takes a seat across from the Laibon.
"Greetings Jaak of Klagenfurt, recent events have certainly been, interesting..." he says with a great deal of venom in his voice. "But was there something specific you wished to speak with me on?"

"Formerly of Klagenfurt, now of Triest" he corrects, "and yes, these recent developments are of what I wanted to discuss. As we use the same methods to keep The Beast at bay, I was hoping you could help straighten out some of the ... confusion I'm having in local politics."
*grinds teeth*
"First off, I don't understand why Duke Ra'Doos would have used such an awkward method to frame you for a crime. Tricking you into court proceedings with the Ard Rhi? Using deception to have you take the fall for B'Lam's assassination?
If that was his goal, why was he so clumsy about it? Why not command you to confess ahead of time, knowing a commuted sentence could be arranged? Then when you were able to declare your innocence, he made no effort to push the issue."
*grinds teeth*
"Especially after the lengthy service you have provided, why would he act so dishonourably, in such a public venue, in such an incompetent manner?"

Alfonso sighs. "While I am gladdened to find someone that walks the same Road I do, it is becoming clear to me that few truly understand what it means to be a Knight. I had thought that he was a strong, honorable liege worthy of my service. Apparently I was mistaken. Apparently a sworn oath of vassalage means little to former Duke.
As for why he did what he did, my guess is that he had figured that his word was enough to have the Ard Rhi pronounce a sentence of death right then and there. In doing so he would have likely absolved himself of any responsibility and possibly won accolades from our Liege. He was so overconfident he did not consider how failure might arrive."

"Very dishonourable. And risky; I know of many Magaji who would've settled the dispute by declaring you both guilty, and drinking both Heart's Blood to discourage future situations of such treachery.
Didaskalos seems genuinely concerned with Justice though. I am sure his Hunter, Loki, will be able to find the truth of the matter and absolve your Name."
*grinds teeth*
"I know that you were also tasked with discovering the proof of who was behind B'Lam's assassination. I am wanting to offer what help I can, even if it's just to confront the guilty parties with you to bring them to justice. We can not allow slander nor heresy to sully the honour of our path. Our Brotherhood defends our honour by purging heretics and striking back at slanderers."
*grinds teeth*
"With such dishonour by the one you had given oath to, I understand why you chose your oath to the Ard Rhi over Ry'Doos. Honesty should always overshadow obedience. You held strong, brother."

"How a Nagloper achieved such authority, I will probably never figure out. The legacies here don't seem to have assigned roles. Everything's so ... chaotic."

A low beastial growl escapes his throat before Alfonso regains his composure. "Raetus will soon be the Duke of nothing once word of his treachery spreads, and once I deliver this assassin I hope the Ard Rhi will grant me the justice I seek. I would be most grateful for any assistance you could provide, this assassin by all accounts is an extremely potent Kindred."
"I know not what this Nagolper of which you speak is, but I must say this idea of a more regimented society is appealing."

"Naglopers. Bestial curs, they wallow in the dirt and find it easier to speak with animals than humans. Their main trait is mutating themselves and others ... it was shocking to see the Duke display such inherent gifts.
I have heard tales of some taking to mortal or Laibon affairs with the same instincts as a hyena stalks prey. But at their core, they are still low-clan degenerates."
*grinds teeth*
"I am used to order. Each Laibon knows their place according to their inherited legacy. We cooperate and coordinate - mostly. Definitely not the same chaotic mess as Gaul. No offense to the Ard Rhi, of course."

"By what accounts have you heard of the assassin? The tale I heard, they did not sound formidable at all. Two children of Kagn, leaping in on a single unarmed priest, after surrounding him with dozens of mortal warriors? Sounds more like cowards and amateurs, easily handled by seasoned warriors as ourselves."

Alfonso nods. "Possibly, but do not mistake stacking the odds for cowardice or a lack of martial ability my friend. Duke Antonio claims that the Assassin was at least strong enough in the powers of my blood to summon Arms of the Abyss, and while Raetus's word is suspect he apparently knew the assassin as a skilled swordsman. We cannot afford to take this foe lightly, I doubt that he would hire anyone less than the best he could find."

*nods*
"There is truth to your words. If, as you posit, Ry'Doos was behind the assassination, he definitely would not have taken any chances and gotten the best for the job.
And, as we both know, numbers can be a deciding factor in any skirmish. My words were overly judgemental, and emotional given the impact this has on our reputation."

"Is there anything else that is occupying your thoughts this evening Jaak?"

"No, brother, I believe that is everything.
We shall get to the bottom of this, I am sure."

"Indeed. I have much to do, so I will bid you adieu."
Alfonso rises out of his chair and leaves the room.
