Trieste finds itself the booming hub of construction. Money and labor flowing in.
Recent events show a extraordinary flood of Money being diverted from one of the other Duchies. With this money comes Architects and Sanitation Engineers. Coordinating with the farmers guild, the remnants of the office of septic maintenance has found new money and life. Unifying into a greater guild now named the Gond Farmers guild plans are under way for a large sewage depository downwind of the city. The exported sewage will be used to fertilize the soil/farms of members of the guild thus providing dual benefit.
After several weeks the Architect and Engineer come out of the Municipal buildings and set to work. The previously displaced, those gathering after fleeing the Plague in Laibach are given new hope and work.
In some areas, bricks and mortar are being sent into the old roman sewer systems for repair and in others the new labor force is given shovels and they begin digging to lay new systems.
With all this activities rat populations seem to be at a all time low.

A month after construction begins the laborers hit a natural pocket/cave hither to unknown. When one of the workers is sent to investigate and a torch is sent down to gauge the size of this discovery a massive explosion rips through the city in defiance to the nearly set sun. The bodies of at least a score of workers are flung into the air.
The squeal of thousands of rats dying and burning can be heard. Fires flash though the city reaching through cracks and crevices to what must have been the previously undiscovered cave (this is different than the known caves).
Rats flood out of the sewers into the streets, singed and burning.
As the last rays of the sun set and the last flashes of fire settle a calm quiet settle over Trieste.
The next is just hear say but we will let you judge the strange events for yourself.
Coweled and cloaked "men" emerge and descend on the city. It is rumored that this has only happened a few times in the Cities distant past and only once in recent times following the invasion and arrival of the Black Ships several year ago. Unknown as to where they come from they just appear in certain times of need. They travel the city gathering up the injured, healing and setting right as they go Those who observers may have deemed to be to close to death for anyone to save simply disappear. Bodies are removed and stacked outside town.
It is said that one of these coweled forms put a flute to his mouth. Rats came to him from every corner of the city, answering his strange haunting music.
Another two figures are said to have taken up a stringed instrument and drums. When they started playing the cats and dogs of the city also congregated and set upon the rats killing, destroying. Before anyone realized the music stopped and the trance broke leaving everyone just staring at the empty square where the strange musician played. Cats and dogs once again lost to the night.

Construction starts up again and continues. A old stone building once used for money changing is converted for use of the newly formed "Gong Farmers Guild" and amalgamation of the former ministry of septic needs and the Farmers Guild.
In flowing script above the archd ston lintel reads
"Ut Rrutrum Stercore Tuis in Aeternum"
In the mid spring the last tie in occurs and shit literally begins flowing downhill to the new settling and collection ponds. From their specially built carts bring in soil where it is mixed with the septic cast off before being reloaded and hauled off to member farms to fertilize.
