Deamos:
You travel to the grand crusader conclave which is being held in Venice under the watch of Narses.
This is a meeting of the moral leaders of the crusaders who have been brought here to "convince" that using the Venetian fleet to travel to the Holy Land is the best option. Believe it or not you watch as Narses dressed as a Cardinal walks into the room stoic and regal he walk slowly toward the dais as the room grows quiet. Narses begins with a slow and low voice that forces the men in the room to strain closely to hear what he says first leading with an opening prayer and other mundane religious screed.
As you are standing in the back of the room a flamboyantly dressed man seems it appear out of nowhere next to you as he sighs and rolls his eyes and looks towards you motioning to talk outside. He walks by you and before you can decide if you want to leave with him he grabs you solidly by the wrist and hurries you out of the room into the small foyer of the meeting hall. He grabs you hands and begins to shake it vigorously,
"How are you Rafael Vega. So nice to finally meet you. I have heard great things about you. The master of the market, the baron of the bazaar, the captain of the consortium. Now, now, no need for alarm as they say never look a gift horse in the mouth. I have found no greater satisfaction than achieving success through honest dealing and strict adherence to the view that, for you to gain, those you deal with should gain as well. That being said I have a little proposition for you."
He moves his head side to side looking over his shoulder not giving you a chance to speak
"You see I am a busy man. I cannot be everywhere at once in fact I should not even be here! I am looking for an representative to help me make dreams happen. You see I deal in the world of making things happen. You want something, you need something, you long for something I can make it happen..........for a price. The only problem is it seems everybody needs something and as I said I cannot be everywhere. This is where you come in."
He shifts his head looking around you making sure nobody is listening in
"Now, now I know what you are about to say. I am much to busy and cannot afford to help you. Well this is where I make a counter offer then you make another counter offer and the dance of the silver tongued
Devils begins. To keep our trade and dance to a minimum I will be clear with you. I shall offer you a selection of goods to sell to the population of Gaul and all I expect is a modest return. Here is the best part............ You keep the profit!"
Rafael:
Rafael straightens his coat with a crisp rustle and peers down at the overdressed man. "This sounds intriguing. We have not had direct dealings in the past, however, so for me to commit to giving my word to you on anything, I must either know more about you or the quality of your wares. If I am satisfied, then I am willing to say, for now, that I very much like profit, and anything that provides me with that is to be considered strongly."
Deamos:
"Quite simply put Lord Vega the good I shall offer to you will be of extraordinary value to our brethren boon, items, influence or who knows we together could make the impossible, possible," he says with a smile, "I can see the trepidation in your heart so allow me to make a simple a clear offer to you."
"What if I clear your debts to Narses?" The merchant says, "Maybe even clean up a few outstanding debts you have floating around too?"
"Perhaps as a show of good faith I even offer a little something of myself?" The smile grows even brighter, "I know Narses asked for you to find him another crusader to join him in his glorious effort, what if I bring you three?"
Rafael:
Holding back his surprise with some effort, Rafael tempers his voice into a businesslike tone. "Well, you certainly are willing to invest a fair amoint up front, a testament to your willingness for a long and profitable relationship. Shall we say the offer of three worthy crusaders to join Narses in my name, the reclamaition of the major boon I gave to Seraphina - I am sure she would find more use in a boon from your store of boons, as she is always welcome to work with me - and perhaps a promise of mutual good word on the veracity of each other's dealings (OOC: perhaps +1 dot in commerce or politics)? I am, of course, open to negotiation, but this seems like a fair and favourable start to a profitable venture for us both."
Deamos:
"Well the boons I gather I shall hold over you of course until I am repaid their value twice over," he says, "just a small piece of collateral to prevent this agreement from souring."
"Not that I don't trust you but a man can never be to careful," the smile grows again, "I will put you in touch with burgomaster Franco in Klagenfurt his contacts spread across most of Gaul and with time could prove very useful."
"Otherwise I believe our business is done and I look forward to working well into the future with you, oh I almost forgot how rude, Demos is the name," he says with a toothy grin.
(ST NOTE: Franco is at this time +1 contact you get for free he is upgradable with XP to become a retainer or can be raised as a contact. Using him as a contact will help you identify influence you don't have and actions people take. At higher levels he can easily identify more actions and who did them SHANE can also flesh this out more with you if he wants contact to work differently)
Rafael:
"A fine agreement," Rafael nods, "I look forward to working closely with you."
