We are considering a change to the current rules for boosting physical traits with blood. We thought to get some input on this and see what you all think?
New rule book
In the new rules you can boost your physical traits by expending blood. 1 trait for 1 blood. However, this is only good/lasts for 1 challenge.
Old Rules
You could boost your physical traits up to your generational max and the boost would last for one scene. This could be done by spending the blood all at once or over multiple rounds.
In addition you could go above your generational max for one challenge by expending the blood at that moment (any traits above generational limit was lost after the challenge).
The old system varied in how traits worked. In a challenge you bid a trait. (ie. I "Viciously" punch you) If you lost the challenge you lost the trait. Thus your total traits diminished over the course of a combat.
Suggested new rule
You can boost your physical traits up to your potential generational maximum (10 + dots in generation) by expending blood at a rate of 1 blood/ physical trait. These diminish at a rate of 1/rnd after the first round of challenges start.
So yes, this would mean that if you could only spend 1/blood per round, you could spend several rounds just before combat to bring your total up to maximum (but you must let a ST know).
ie. a 8th generation Vampire (3 dots in gen) that already has 9 physical traits could raise their total physical traits to 13 (base 10+ 3 dots in generation). by spending 4 blood over 1 or multiple rounds. If they were say in a pre-combat yelling match they could quietly be boosting their physicals to max before the first punch is thrown. At the end of the first combat round one of the traits boosted by blood goes away. So in Combat round 2 they would have 12 traits (or they could spend another blood at any point in the round before comparing traits to boost it back to 13).
A 10th generation Vampire could spend 1/round before combat to reach their maximum of 11 physical traits.
Like the original system you could raise your traits above maximum by spending all the blood one round and it lasts for only one challenge or one round whichever is less. The above generation max traits disappear before the diminishment of the other blood raised traits.
ie. You could boost your physical to generational max before combat because you know something bad is coming. Then at any point in the round you could spend more blood to go above generational max (always before you compare traits). That same 8th generation Vampire could then have 16 traits. These would last for one challenge or until the end of the round if no challenge ended up being thrown.
