Squire Downtime
I shall be putting my Squire and Militia towards the search party, as per our conversation at last Gather.
Looking into trying to find Tyr
Personal #1
I do believe that we need every resource possible. The Shango have been battling Aje ... Infernalists ... since Kagn returned from the Dark Lands. Carthage was at the edge of Laibon lands, and that location seems integral to this puzzle also. My Sire will have tools and advice that will no doubt aid in our efforts to track/apprehend the criminal Nicomedes Petras.
Travel to visit his Sire and learn what he can about the Infernalists and how to track/apprehend them.
I am thinking we put the hint of the Demonology book that was taken from Carthage back into play. And maybe a little knowledge Lore about the Baali pit if I can find a excerpt or two to paste over. Unless you have a cool riddle you have been plugging away at?
You visit your Sire who is very tied up with his own buisness but does spare time for you because of your particular quest. He recounts legends as he knows them and calls a gather of Kin. Piecing together information you learn that the Baali gain power from serving demons, that they can create a pit that draws into itself power and at which they offer up sacrifices to their demon lord. You learn that to create a pit it requires the sacrifice of many innocents, the corruption and draining of power of items of faith, the sacrifice of Cainite blood. Many things can be used but the combination is ripping a small hole into the Hells.
As for travelling it was discovered that the creatures of the abyss and the Baali could somehow transport themselves through space. But not to just anywhere. They always appeared in certain areas when they did appear and seemed to only be able to disappear again from those same areas. In the end they set up watches and wards in known areas of transport to keep others from arriving or fleeing. They had a couple times after searching areas managed to find floating skulls which they are pretty sure were somehow linked to this ability.
Carthage was infested by the Cult of Bezekie. One of a few sects of infernals that had risen but known to be one of the most powerful demons. There is rumor that Both Nicodemus and the Ard Rhi were somehow involved in it's destruction
Bezekiel is a Major Demon of greater power. Rumor has it that the Church once fought him in England. That a Bishop had faced a great plague upon his flock all his prayers could do nothing, at least until Beziekiel answered and promised salvation. After imprisoning and interrogating this Bishop they learned that this Bezekiel, comes in and offers his servants something they can never refuse, binding them to his will in the process. Some come willingly some are set up so that accepting his help is their only option. But once he decides to pursue someone he usually wins.
The Cult of Bezekiel has had minor following pop up here and there in the not to distant past. Somewhere to the west a coven of Witches are said to have been active but since destroyed. Bezekiel was thought to have been locked away and unable to return to our plane for a 1000 years but apparently he has either found a way around this or it was only a ploy to get his opponents to back off while he rebuilt. The minor demons they are sure were destroyed and banished.
Nicodemus was the Ard Rhi's right hand man and Protege. Together they were main activists and instrumental in the destruction of a Beziekiel's pit.
One of the guests tells you of a legend he once heard. Supposedly one of his Acolytes fled Carthage carrying a book containing Beziekiels secrets and those of his kind.
The follower is said to have fled into Croatia.
This spurs on another guest who recalls another thing he once heard similar but he heard of a lantern.
No not just a lantern but two mystical objects they were held and created by mortal mages. Once held but lost to the Order of Hermes. One is a lantern that is enchanted, when lit with a special candle the combined magics are said to bind all souls to the radius of the light. The Candle casts a circle of protection vs evil. The Lantern when lit with even a normal candle is said to keep ones spirit from leaving the body and promote the knitting of flesh (healing). The last known existing candle and the lantern are said to have been lost in a great battle against evil. From what you can piece together it refers to the fall of Carthage. He remembers hearing of a Friar that may have fled the city. And latter stories from wandering pilgrims telling of occasional appearances of a holy man healing peasants of injuries that should have sent their soul to their gods. Croatia he thinks.
