Frenzy and Beast Traits
Part of the excitement and drama involved in VtM is facing the beast, fighting it off and drawing it out in others. In the old system you could taunt someone into frenzy, scare them away with enough fire or drive them to attack and feed if they were low on blood. Also, it makes it very hard to play the slow degeneration to the beast.
Beast traits can be gained through sins to your path. Through other characters provoking you in character (beast trait lasts 1 hr from last provocation, multiple people purposefully and continually provoking you can add more than one beast trait). Through disciplines. ie) Dementation – Passion and Dementation – Haunting would both add a Beast trait in addition to normal affects for the duration listed (1hr). Other powers that affect how you perceive things may also add temporary beast traits.
Beast Traits and Behavior
Consider your beast traits like your mood in some ways. As people irritate you, you become more reactive and touchy to events that happen around and to you. Try to tailor your characters behavior to show your inner beast showing more and more as your beast traits go up. The following is a chart to help you determine how beast traits might affect you and to help you role-play the beast drawing closer to the surface.
Beast Traits and Behavior
Frenzy Triggers
This is a guide. Repeated slander, pushing and egging on can cause someone to gain beast traits. If you think you are doing something or someone else is doing something that may affect your mood/tension/beast then add a beast trait to yourself or talk to a ST about applying a test to the target you are trying to provoke and having one added.
If you have purposely been playing calm and avoiding all tension talk to a ST about maybe a test to have a beast trait removed.
